The Numerology of 9th July, 2009

Or maybe not, that’s just me being dramatic again. What’s got me all fired up?

Well I began the day with the electricity running out; it’s an expensive antiquated system of a pre-payment meter, but one I’m stuck with for the foreseeable future. Then I lost my broadband connection, and my landline – seems I neglected to pay my bill on time and Richard Branson wanted his money, he must be planning another trip to the moon…

So after paying my bill and after breakfast (yes I still had some gas left for my regulation eggs on toast), I sat at my pc and checked my stats on Google Analytics and entered today’s date and that’s when I noticed it – the date:

09 – 07 – 09

Ah, how sweet, reversable numbers. If you look a little closer though, you will see something else:

09 – 07 – 2009

And my point is? Well, with a little bit of creative license, we can do this:

09 – (07 + 20) – 09

= 09 – 09 – 09 or;

999 !!!

No wonder I’m having a shocking start to the day! Emergencies everywhere, well two – so far – the day is still young, and in some parts of the world people aren’t even up yet. They say things happen in three’s and while I’m trying to be true to my optimistic nature, I can’t help but think something else may just add to the shenanigans I’m experiencing today.

If we play with the Numerology a little more, we can see we’re still having a 9 day:

9 + 9 + 9 = 27

2 + 7 = 9

Amazing stuff – I love numbers. That love began when I was learning my nine times table, all the answers add up to 9; give it a try and you will see.

This is a Tarot blog though and it’s an interesting exercise to see how the number 9 relates to the Tarot. Let’s first look at the Minor Arcana:

9 of Wands – Determination; strength of character; digging deep; belief in your personal power; courage under fire; a test of personal power or strength.

9 of Cups – Contentment; satisfaction; universal joy; success; a bright future; brimming with joy; blessings; feeling good about everything; bliss.

9 of Swords – Mental cruelty; verbal assault; worry; sleepless nights; self-harm; betrayal; suffering; despondency; a turn for the worse; anxiety.

9 of Disks – Gain; rewards for your efforts; success in projects and business deals; realizing your goals; financial and personal independence; material security.

Well I can certainly say I have experienced pretty much all of that today! Even the joy and bliss – apart from laughing at my own situation (because let’s face it, this mess is my own doing, as much as I’d like to blame Richard Branson..), in Marks and Spencer today a poor guy was being henpecked into buying a suit and his wife was taking photo’s of him in different suits so they could compare them together!! I actually did laugh out loud, but then I also believe in sharing the joy

Getting back to the task in hand though and we can see the 9’s at play in my life today; but what of the Major Arcana? What can we see in there that relates directly to the number 9?

Well of course we have to look to the Hermit first. Is there a lesson here for me? No doubt. A little soul searching wouldn’t go amiss – I really should pay my bills on time. It’s only a small glimpse of a larger issue, and I know exactly what it means, so I shall take heed to the message of the Hermit.

If we continue the theme of Numerology though and see what number comes next in the sequence of 9’s (essentially the nines timestable), we have the number 18.

9 + 9 = 18 or;

2 x 9 = 18

This takes us to the Moon card and I’m smiling already when I think of the mysteries and uncertainty. Although the sun is shining, today has a kind of ‘Moon-like’ feel to it – basically I don’t have a clue what’s going on and I have no idea what may happen next! Surreal isn’t in it! But hey, undaunted – let the day continue!

Let’s go back to the 18 though and play with the Numerology a little more:

1 + 8 = 9 !!!

So what did we find out about today – it’s a 9 day, in every way: the date and the Numerology; it all comes back to 9 today. While the Master Numerologists say that 9 is a number of completion and bringing things to a close, or the culmination of your efforts (should have paid my bill..), my own blend of Tarot Numerology for the number 9 is:

Strength, compassion, completion, optimism, suffering

Awesome! But where is the compassion? Where is the love? The love is where I’m sitting right now, typing this from my neighbours house as I’ve lost my broadband connection again and won’t get it back for 24hrs, so the nice people at Virgin Media tell me. Things happen in three’s they say, and now I’ve had three events before 3 o’clock which makes me want to tell you one more thing about the number 9 and the number 3…. 9 is divisible by 3, 3 times!!! But of course you already knew that

9 / 3 = 3

3 x 3 = 9

9 x 3 = 27 (2 + 7 = 9)

27 x 3 = 81 (8 + 1 = 9)

81 x 3 = 243 (2 + 4 + 3 = 9)

The fun never ends with Numerology, try replacing the 3 with the 9 in those examples above and you will see that all the answers add up to 9. It still amazes me, and on this day of uncertainty, it’s raising a smile

So I am going now, time to put my feet up and sunbathe in this sunny but Moon-like day and expect the unexpected. Let me know if any of you have had a strange day today, I’d love to hear about it:)

Very interesting. I’m starting to like numerology. I usually discount the meanings of numbers but it’s like a whole new world out there. I might have to study numbers too while studying the tarot.

Thanks for dissecting sept 9, 2009. I wish I made a journal that day… I totally forgot what I did….

Thanks for commenting. I have a love of numerology and numbers in particular and their use in Tarot is very beneficial. There is a universal theme that runs through the Minor Arcana and you should check out my post called Numerology of the Minor Arcana for a closer look at how that works. I will be adding more posts on classical Numerology in the coming months and also a Numerology of the Major Arcana very soon. I’d love to know what you think of that too.

This post dealt with July, not September and was only really meant to be a lighthearted look at how numbers can play out in our lives. I’m glad to report the actual date of 9-09-09 past by without a hitch
