The Wonderful World of Quirkeries

In a quiet corner of the blogosphere lies a wonderful, unspoilt land of beauty, uniqueness, directness and independence. This little corner belongs to Sharyn, owner and creator of Quirkeries – one of my favourite tarot blogs.

Unaffected by the wider tarot blogosphere, Sharyn does her own thing, says what she likes, when she likes and how she likes; and I think it’s awesome! Quirkeries follows it’s own formula, it doesn’t try to educate anyone; you won’t find lists of correspondences or spreads; just one woman’s ideas on a tarot card drawn for that day.

The only remit that Sharyn lays down is that she features a different deck each week, pulling a card a day and writing down her thoughts on that card in relation to her own life, feelings or beliefs. Each post is complimented with a quote – and anyone who knows me, or reads my blog or Twitter, will know how much I love a good quote! These aren’t just any old quotes though, Sharyn must have a resource she keeps under lock and key, as they’re not your usual ball park quotes found almost everywhere else.

Sharyn is a very modest, unassuming individual; seemingly unaffected or unconcerned with what everyone else is doing on the internet, and I love that about her too. Her creative exploits don’t stop with a tarot blog though, she is also a hugely creative seamstress (a description which seems wanting when you look at her work), and owner of two other blogs showcasing her work.

She has been an inspiration to me in the short time that I have been reading her work. My previous post, Kathy’s Song: How I Use My Singing Bowl, was inspired by a post that Sharyn had written on Quirkeries. Only yesterday I was inspired again, not just by this weeks featured deck, but by the quote accompanying the opening post, Just Living Or Savoring Life:

“I, with a deeper instinct, choose a man who compels my strength, who makes enormous demands on me, who does not doubt my courage or my toughness, who does not believe me naive or innocent, who has the courage to treat me like a woman.” ~ Anais Nin 1903-1977

This quote leaves me speechless as it describes how I feel without me ever knowing I wanted to say it. The inspiration just never seems to end for me with Sharyn and Quirkeries and I know this statement will leave her bemused, but some things you just have to say, I just hope I said it well.

Re, the quote by Anais Nin. Any man who has the courage to treat a woman as a woman publicly as well as in the privacy of ones own home, to share and express himself and what he truly feels without worry as to what the rest of the world may think or say is a keeper. They are emerging…slowly. Express guys…try it, guarantee you’ll like it. It’s very liberating. You’re doing a great job of revealing these hidden gems of women who are unafraid to express and expose themselves. Keep it up Cath.

Hi Jackie,

Thanks for commenting. It would seem there are gems all over the internet, but perhaps I need to balance the gender bias? It’s not a conscious thing, people who know me will tell you I’m no feminist; this is just working out the way it is, though in a reply to Sharyn’s comment of yesterday, I do highlight an extraordinary man, William Zeitler, who I feel is doing some wonderful work and is more than worthy of showcasing here and everywhere else for that matter!

I agree though that expression is very liberating to experience and also be around, rather like soul food; so wherever we find each other out there in the blogosphere or down our own street, we should be feeding each other and sharing our finds for everyone to enjoy and grow from, so rest assured I will continue to share who and what I find that ignites my inner flame.

Some people naturally inspire others, and Sharyn has done that for me in the short time I’ve got to know her. You should check out her writings: clean, direct and from the heart. I think you would really like her work Jackie.

Go check her out at Quirkeries.

Hi Cath,

In no way do your writings indicate even a trace of being a feminist, and hopefully my comment didn’t come across that way in regards to myself. I love a man and his company. With regards to the mention of gender bias and balance in your posts, this will come and go as and when your own musings dictate. It is a rare person whose pendulum does not swing from center from time to time. As women at this point in our evolution I feel we are finally finding our balance, just as men are. There are many thoughts and articles waiting in the ether to be expressed on this subject and no doubt many of them will air here on your blog, hopfully from both men and women.
Your mention of food and feeding each other is especially relevant to me at this time in my own work and musings.
These comments went a little off the original topic perhaps but this is how the stream of consciousness works when there is flow. Stagnation certainly does not seem to be an issue here.

Hi Jackie,

I didn’t mean that you were being a feminist, or me, for that matter – only that I have leaned to the ladies so far :)

Sisters are indeed doing it for themselves!

Going off topic is fine, debate and an exchange of ideas is surely the goal with any blog? Though we’re still talking about the ladies…. so I think we’re fine ;)

Hugs, and thanks for the spirit life. Sharyn

I wonder if I’ll ever have time to finish the quilt you featured??
Here is a quote for you, and you can take it to the bank…

Aw Sharyn I didn’t mean to make you cry! I just have been so inspired by you and have loved your writings so much that like Roswila’s Blog, I just wanted to shout it from the roof tops and tell all my friends :)

I love that quilt you began making, I hope you do finish it one day; your talents seem to know no end. I never had the patience for such things but always admired them and their creators. I hope the Golf days work out too, it sounds like an awesome idea.

As for the quote, I will take it to the bank – it’s going to take pride of place on my home page for all to read :)

I hope the rest of your day brings you sunshine and good tidings :)

Much love to you,

Catherine

Please excuse my posting here, but I’ve tried to leave comments at Sharyns blog, Quirkeries. The textbox is malfunctioning – unabke to copy, paste, backspace, etc. And if you struggle through that, it then kills off your comments!

HELP!
