Discussion

The Robin Wood Tarot focusses on our wealthy character and shows his looking far out to sea. The castle walls are higher in this card, does this show his malady that Arthur Waite talks about? The Llewellyn Tarot has a much stronger feel to it. The woman holds not a world but a globe, parallel to the distant sun – aligning it to her will perhaps? The Tarot of the New Vision shows us the Rider Waite-Smith character from the front of the castle and so we see behind him, and a jester, dejected and inactive. Is the character so lost in his thoughts, his dreams & vision that he is blinded by them to the expense of those around him?

We associate the 2 of Wands with such domination and control and yet rarely do we see the malady that Arthur Waite talks of in the Pictorial Key. And yet if we look at our character, rich as he is in all he can survey, as Alexander did, he is trapped by it also, in his stone castle- is this the reason for his malady? Is the 2 of Wands equal also to being a victim of your success?

We have seen themes of choice, of control and dynamism – what does the 2 of Wands say to you?
